STEVE PERRY REUNITES WITH LONGTIME SONGWRITING COLLABORATOR RANDY GOODRUM (“OH SHERRIE” & “FOOLISH HEART”) ON STRIPPED DOWN & REIMAGINED “MOST OF ALL”
(11.18.20) — Hall of Fame songwriter, Randy Goodrum, and longtime collaborator, Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, Steve Perry, continue their hugely successful writing partnership with their latest offering, a reimagined, stripped down version of “Most of All,” the first track from Perry’s upcoming Traces (Alternative Versions & Sketches). Citing the track as “a very important song on this record,” the iconic vocalist has released two versions of “Most Of All” along with accompanying videos: a Stripped visualizer as well as a previously unreleased “Most of All” performance video. Goodrum comments, “”Most Of All” is a perfect example of a Steve Perry/Randy Goodrum co-written song in that it’s sincere, from-the heart, and without compromise. Steve tops it off with a perfect vocal performance and interpretation.”
Goodrum and Perry’s prolific association began with the co-writing of Perry’s biggest solo hits, “Oh Sherrie”, “Foolish Heart” and others from the multi-Platinum, post-Journey, Street Talk. “Oh Sherrie” remains Perry’s biggest hit on his own, having reached #1 on Billboard's Rock chart and #3 on the Billboard Hot 100. "Foolish Heart" peaked at #18 and both remain staples on radio today.
“I wrote [‘Most of All’] with Randy Goodrum, the same guy that co-wrote ‘Foolish Heart’ and ‘Oh Sherrie’”, Perry has said. “It was around even before I met Kellie (Perry’s love who died before Traces was completed). I didn’t tell her about it to avoid affecting her struggle. But after she passed, I remembered it on my hard drive and realized that it was about her before I even met her, and now it’s even more about her after I lost her."
Perry revealed in an exclusive interview with Classic Rock Magazine that he’d kept two songs from Traces hidden from his girlfriend, Kellie Nash, the inspiration for his return to music. Perry met Nash while she was dealing with a recurrence of cancer and he shared that she told him, “If something was to ever happen to me, make me a promise that you won’t go into isolation again. … I think it would make this all for naught.’” He added that Nash "would love this record, but more importantly she’d be proud that I kept my promise to her and made another record –something I swore that I would never do.” By the time she died 18 months after they’d met, he'd started working on Traces.
